When I was in elementary school, my grandmother passed away. My grandmother loved me the most. I couldn't get rid of my sorrow, everyday, I ran around the tracks at school, I ran till I was exhausted and collapsed onto the ground, crying in the grass.
//NEWLINE//Those sorrowful days continued for a long time, my parents didn't know how to comfort me. They knew that telling me the truth was better than lying to me and saying that she just went to sleep. Grandmother was never coming back.
//NEWLINE//"Why is she never coming back?" I asked.
//NEWLINE//"Anything that belongs to time doesn't come back. Yesterday has passed, and it will forever be yesterday, you can't go back anymore. I was a little kid like you once, but I can not go back to my childhood anymore. One day, you will grow up, you will be as old as grandmother, and you will never come back just like her."
//NEWLINE//Father was telling me a mystery , it scared me more than "An inch of time is worth more than a block of gold. It puzzled me more than "Time is as fast as an arrow, and the days pass as quickly as a needle".
//NEWLINE//From then on, everyday after school, I would sit in my backyard watch the sun slowly set into the mountain, one inch at a time, knowing that, even though the sun will come out again tomorrow, I will never be able to come back to today.
//NEWLINE//I watched the birds in the sky, they cut quickly through the air. Tomorrow, they will follow the same path, but will won't be today. Maybe tomorrow, when the birds fly along the sky, they won't be old, but young.
//NEWLINE//Time flies, and it not only worries me, but saddens me as well. One day, after school, I saw that the sun was almost setting, and I decided that I was going to be faster than the sun running back home. I ran and ran, and when I was out of breath in my backyard, I looked up and half of the sun was still showing. I happily jumped in the air, I had won the race against the sun. After that day, I often raced the sun back home, sometimes I would even race the wind. One time, when I was doing homework in the summer, I finished early. I was in third grade, and I often would take my brother's homework to do. Every time I won a race against time, I got a feeling that I couldn't describe.
//NEWLINE//In the twenty years that have passed, I have benefited so much from this. Even though I know that its impossible to win a race against time, you can still be a few steps faster every time you race, and if you try hard enough, you can be many steps faster. And even though those steps may not be a lot, its use is very big.
//NEWLINE//In the future, if I have anything to say to my kids, I would tell them, if you try to race against time, you can be successful.
